THE TERTIARY SECTOR

TRADE

Trade is the exchange of products and services for money. Trade can be domestic or foreign. In domestic trade, products and services are exchanged within the same country. In foreign trade, products and services are exchanged with other countries.

Farmers and factories do not usually sell their products directly to customers. There are various stages involved in trade. Producers obtain and make products to sell. Transporters distribute the products to the shops. Sales people sell the products or services to the consumers. Consumers buy the finished products.

SERVICES

People who work in the tertiary sector provide services to other people. There are different types of jobs in this sector:

• Health Care: Doctors and Nurses work in hospitals
• Education: Teachers work in schools and universities
• Trade: People work in banks and companies, buying and selling products.
• Tourism: People work in restaurants, hotels and museums , or work as a tour guide or travel agents
• Communications: People work in radio, television and newspapers.
• Transport: People work as a bus and train drivers , ticket offices and airports.
